Gracefully Greek + Sorority Prep Collaboration

“ I vividly remember the knot in the pit of my stomach after the nightly rush debriefing call. I had never been more grateful to be in the mental health field, and feel somewhat prepared and half know what to say to my daughter. My “I Got This Mom” girl was dealing with a level of stress she had never experienced before. And if I’m completely honest, neither had I. But it did sound familiar to me, as I had worked with many young ladies, making the exciting transition to the next chapter…College! I couldn’t help but think these girls have everything going for them. They’re intelligent, confident, hard-working, and accomplished. Yet the SIZE of this transition and the rapid-fire recruitment process without the usual posse of support and comfort of home had rattled them. I imagined the calls all across the country from mentally and physically exhausted PNMs reaching out desperately to their moms for a much needed lifeline.”

Sadi Rush Mom Class of 2023

That pivotal moment described above, inspired my colleagues and me to take action to assist these young women and their mothers in navigating RUSH in a healthy manner, leading to the creation of Gracefully Greek! We are thrilled to announce our latest collaboration with Sorority Prep + Gracefully Greek! This program, designed by therapists, aims to prepare mothers and daughters for the mental challenges associated with sorority recruitment, while partnering with Sorority Prep on all things recruitment.

As we explored the existing research on mental health and recruitment, we found that it often contradicted the glamorous recruitment images portrayed online. When most people think of rush, we think of what we see on social media- excited faces, bid day festivities, and stunning house decorations. However, the reality of rush tells a very different story, with feelings of rejection that spark self-doubt and racing thoughts after busy parties and pressured decisions. Research indicates that, regardless of the outcomes, recruitment is a stressful experience for many. Although this finding was not surprising, we recognized that most mothers and daughters felt unprepared for the journey ahead. We knew if girls could improve their mental readiness, it would significantly enhance their recruitment experience. Our mission became clear: to safeguard and promote mental health for every Potential New Member (PNM) while leveraging the power of the mother-daughter bond to foster positivity and resilience throughout recruitment.

Now, we find ourselves at the beginning of an exciting partnership between Sorority Prep and Gracefully Greek, which adopts a fresh, holistic perspective on recruitment preparation. We are confident in our ability to support mothers and daughters as they navigate the rush process. Initially, we recognized the need for tools focused on mental readiness, but we soon realized that we needed more to address the intricacies of recruitment. This realization led us to collaborate with Leslie Cunningham and Sorority Prep. We share a dedication to mental readiness, exploration of core values, and confidence-building. Together, we are eager to assist PNMs and their mothers during this challenging yet thrilling time! We can't wait to share more about our exciting collaboration!
